CRITICAL REVIEW

Camelia Cilianu has a well defined artistic identity, embodied in an already significant number of works, albeit she belongs to the young generation. She questions the binary relation between full/empty, specific to sculpture, and proposes as a favourite motive of her thematic repertoire the shelter. As such, works like Shelter, Precinct, Miobritical Temple, Bell, Shape, Turtle, Gullible Meteor reaffirm the issue of the complementarity between the plastic interior and the plastic exterior in its symbolic extension beyond the limits of the physicality. The titles of his “blind” (bronze) series – Footb, Gladiatorb FootbMiorb, Flightb, Miobritical Temple verbalize playfully, by sonorous and conceptual-linguistic experiments the plastic experience. The series of graphemes (the modules of coloured concrete) exploit the decorative potential of the alphabetic signs and requires the artist not only to solve the technical issues, but also to have a special vision, in which the artistic monumental object works together aesthetically and functionally with the landscape.
