CRITICAL REVIEW

Cotoşman Roman play a role in the emancipation of Romanian art from the aesthetic of the socialist realism and its synchronization with the European ideas. At Timişoara he initiates the constructivist movement, practicing teamworking and inaugurating the preoccupation for a larger aesthetic experience, beyond the limits of traditional genres. He is concerned with the issue of art reception, initiating experiments with the public. He renews the plastic language founding it on a purist-constructivist principle, making graphic works of extreme refinement and objects with a constructivist-kinetic feature (the series Quaternar, 1968, project for The Informational Tower, 1969), following the same formal principles, moving towards the concrete art, operating with a set of minimal plastic elements.
