Cătălin Târziu (1968) studied sculpture in Iaşi and he has worked since 1997 as a scene painter at the Romanian National Opera in the same town, creating the décor for numerous shows. He also exhibits sculpture, being present in numerous occasions at the FAU Annual Salon Iaşi or at other group exhibitions.
His sculptural creation repertoire varies from portrait, nude or torso to essentialized shapes, decanted from any reference to external reality. Both in the case of figurative works and in the abstract compositions as well, his artistic approach remains a tribute to a type of refined and balanced moulding.
The studied proportions, the suave contours, the perfect polishing of surfaces and all of these elements give coherence, grace and suppleness to the sculptural shapes. He works in wood, basalt, granite, marble, metal, sometimes resorting to their combinations in order to create contrasts and to reinforce each other, as it happens in the Aquatica series.
