OLTEANU (STÂNCĂ), Aurel

CRITICAL REVIEW

One of the representative artists for the modern direction received by Romanian sculpture from the second half of the 20th century, trained in Boris Caragea’s class, Aurel Stanca Olteanu gets distinguished through his use of all the materials destined for sculpture, stone, wood, metal, bronze, through a prolonged practice of classic techniques (carving and modelling), through workshop series that do not remain prisoners of a working manner, but gradually shift from a stylized figurative to non-figurative. His experience as a restorer contributes to carefully treating the materials used, but also to the acquisition of a wide thematic range. Especially present in the group exhibition, in the country and abroad, and less active in the creative symposia, Aurel Stanca Olteanu delicately approaches feminine characters which he stylizes until obtaining a suggestive finesse and he polishes them until resulting in surfaces able to capture light.
