CRITICAL REVIEW

One of the young sculptors mostly preoccupied with the numerous possibilities of representing the human instances, Dragoş Neagoe continuously experiments with materials and he also investigates through various forms of visual expression, from sculpture and object to instalment and performance, the impact on the public. The sculptor’s belief remains the one that "Sculpture is a special state of the matter". Therefore, from taking suggestions from the sphere of classical antic sculpture to the contemporary representations, frequently of postmodern origin, seemingly no obstacle is encountered. He easily makes this step without remaining confined in a unique manner of representation. Dragoş Neagoe’s workshop or public forum creations, most often anthropomorphic, sometimes realised in collaboration with other fellow artists of his generation, propose a bitter-ironic meditation upon human condition. Certainly, his experience as a restorer, familiar with many of the classic and modern techniques, makes its presence felt in all of his plastic experiments. The mundane existence, with its trivialities and routine is often suggested by Dragoş Neagoe’s works.
