Undoubtedly, a keen and competent observer of classic sculpture, trained as a sculptor after World War II, Gheorghe Vartic practiced an art permanently attached to human value, to portrait, to its three dimensional representation and shaped in various sculpture materials. At the same time, the artist took into account the symbolic-decorative value of small sculpture, inspired from natural forms or from the art of other époques. Gheorghe Vartic treated gently the approached subjects, making unexpected
transitions from figurative to non-figurative, from forms with a well emphasized plasticity to strongly accentuated decorative forms. With a lot of care for details and textures, the sculptor created a few series of works inspired from books, putting together the anatomical shapes with the ones drawn from everyday life, suggestions of certain objects from the domestic universe.
