CRITICAL REVIEW

The artist belongs to a generation of sculpture that values and develops the brancusian poetic from a minimalist perspective. The primary structures, that dominate the 70s sculpture, unravel themselves at a monumental scale, and the carving technique, which is preferred over others, attributes archaic but also modern features. The gesture itself of giving shape, has its ritual value which Florin Codre knows how to highlight. The matter, usually stone and wood, is called as a partner in a confrontation in which will and creative energy overcome an equal adversary. Florin Codre frequently treats matter against its “formal will”, speculating the relation between outside and inside, like the variations of the theme of the cylinder and its core. In the equestrian statue Carol I he goes back to an academic realism.
